Carl Jung's Book Redesign: Part 1

The Concept
Carl Jung said "Dreams are the guiding words of the soul. Why should I henceforth not love my dreams and not make their riddling images into objects of my daily consideration?" My concept is to show how the psyche creates dreams of what an individual most desires and most fears and how it reflects on them as a whole. For this project, I created a book cover that shows a reflection of yourself and what you dream of. Through this concept, I wanted to show how your emotions and experiences can affect you not only on the outside, but in the inside. It shows how even though you may look normal on the outside, if you truly look into someone’s eyes there is a whole world of emotions going on that are beyond comprehension.
Initial Sketch
The Initial sketch was designed to show the balance between desires and fears within the human psyche.

The Designs

The Front cover is a depiction of your nightmares--all the things you fears and hate. These are the kind of dreams that make you wake up with cold sweets and a racing heart.

The back cover is a representation of your sweet dreams. The dreams that make you wake up with a smile on your face-- all of your deepest fantasies and desires.

The balance between good and bad dreams like fire and water.

Carl Jung's Book Redesign: Part 2
The Concept
We as humans program our brains to think a specific ways using the data we collect from our interactions with others as well as our day-to-day experiences. Therefore I created a cover that reflects such a concept. The front cover shows the dreamer programming her own thoughts using what was observed from the people around her. While, the back cover displays the dream printing an image directly into the brain. This concept was meant to show the viewer how impactful human interaction is to the brain. Everything we experience from the time we wake up the morning to the time we go to bed, effects us in someway or another. The experience can be as small as seeing a picture of the moon and that can make you dream of traveling to space. Every experience is important and can change your outlook on the world.

The book as a whole is a story showing a girl programming her brain to print images of the things she is experiencing.
